Here at Eye Kettleby Lakes we are constantly reviewing our working environment to see if we can lower our carbon footprint.
As guests and visitors could you please spare a few minutes to read this policy and help us along!!
The Building Plan 2006
When designing and creating our site we looked at every aspect to ensure our output was reduced to a minimum.
- We installed a pump near the edge of the lodge woods, which draws water from a natural bore hole, this is used mainly to refill hot tubs & water all surrounding gardens when needed.
- Each lodge is fitted with a shower in each bathroom. On average a shower uses 2/3 less water in comparison to running a bath.
- We installed dual flush toilets.
- Each lodge is heavily insulated in both the floor and roof, all lodges are fitted with double gazed windows/ temperature controlled thermostats. All reducing heat loss.
- We have installed Worcester Greenstar combination boilers in every lodge; 10% less fuel usage Low NOX & CO2 emissions (These units are regularly maintained to check efficiency)
- All hot tubs and saunas are on timers. Hot tubs are covered when out of use to retain heat (These are checked daily).
- Censored lights are fitted above all entrance doors and outside areas to minimise usage.
- We have only installed A-grade appliances.
- A treatment plant was installed in 2006. Recycling water, which is returned to our on site lakes.
We spend hours and hours every week preserving the beautiful countryside that surrounds our complex. Since day one we have planted over 40 thousand trees, established 8 lakes, home to many families of geese & ducks. We have surrounded each of the lodges with plantations of shrubs and trees to encourage and support all wildlife from butterflies to pheasants!
In the main woods we have built bird boxes, the wildlife gives the whole site a lot of character, so we try to encourage as much as possible.
Our RecyclingAt present we recycle 100% of all glass and cardboard used by any member of our team. We encourage all lodge guests to separate such materials so that we can recycle on there behalf.
We also recycle 100% of all used ink cartridges which are donated to chosen charities.
In the next twelve months we hope to increase our recyclable materials to:- Paper
- Tins/cans
- Aluminium
We are in the process of introducing specific bins for each material in every lodge and when established are going to begin to promote all recycling throughout our lodges.
Plans for 2008/2009We are constantly looking for new ways to preserve our environment and are always open to suggestions. These are just a few of our running ideas and plans for the coming year.
Encourage the lodge guests to help with our recycling efforts. Provide suitable containers for this purpose.
Research and request grants on the possibility of installing a wind turbine; producing up to 90% of all used electricity.
Provide washing lines for the sunny months.Install energy saving light bulbs where appropriate.
Use recycled paper and toilet paper.
Transform our booking system, to enable online/email correspondence. Saving hundreds of envelopes and sheets of paper every year and maybe a few stamps too!!!
New signage has been commissioned and will be posted in the lodges to encourage all guests to help us do our part!
Lodge Guests Can You Please!!- Turn off that tap when you’re brushing your teeth, morning & night!!
- Turn off lights as you exit any room!!
- Follow our recycling guidelines!!
- Keep windows closed when heating is on!!
- Turn the heating down when venturing out for the day!!
- Never leave electrical appliances on standby!!
- Use washing lines provided when the sun is shining!!
- Use washing machine / dishwasher only for full loads!!
If everybody helps just a little, we can make a bigger impact for Leicestershire and our planet.
Many Thanks
Joe & Lizzy Lomas & Team
